Body Mass Calculator

If you have type 2 diabetes, you should try to stay at a healthy weight. Why? Increased body fat makes it harder for your body to use insulin. But how do you know what’s a healthy weight for you?

Your body mass index (BMI) is one good way to learn whether you’re at a healthy weight. Your Body Mass Index is calculated from your height and weight. The BMI Calculator on this site can tell you whether your weight is within a healthy range.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), people with BMIs of 18.5 to 24.9 are considered normal. Those with BMIs of 30 and above are considered obese. People with BMIs of 18.5 or less are considered underweight.

The BMI score can help you and your doctor decide if you need to lose weight. But it doesn’t work well for everyone. For example, the BMI score may not be valid for people who have a lot or a little muscle.
